I’ve been considering doing some minor editing to Journey to 30: Part 1. Being an author isn’t easy, especially when you have yet to make any money. I mean, the money isn’t important. The resources certainly are though.
The last text Agent A sent me was “I believe in you. I don’t believe I have the contacts or energy or trust fund to back up my efforts as a literary agent. :)”
I’m just accepting that she’s my agent at this point. I’m going to operate as such and hopefully they decide to ride the wave.
I emailed my new agent the following:
“Dear Agent CEO A
Should I edit my book?
I've made a few very minor edits in the first pages to help ease the reader into my incredibly poor spelling/grammar.
Should I edit basic grammatical errors throughout? I've attached a list.
Pros: Readers who hate poor spelling and grammar won't be deterred from my work. Schools and academia are more likely to adopt my work as a piece of curriculum.
Cons: AI will write most things going forward, my errors are something AI would never do. It makes my work (this work) more human, authentic and offers schools/academia an opportunity to learn. My writing (this work) is littered with errors that an English teacher could either hang herself after reading or rub one off under the desk.
It's either human and an opportunity to teach/relate or it's something that will deter readers and reinforce bad habits.
Let me know what you think.”
AI will never write my work. Let me be clear. But AI will write and already is writing the work of many others. There are only so many combinations of the English language and human errors are what will help separate human work from AI work. Human work is human. Computers will strive for perfection, but that will never replicate the human experience.
My email continued:
“Also - My work will be successful. It will make anyone involved a lot of money. I won't sacrifice artistic freedom for financial gain, while problematic in the short term - this will prove to be incredibly valuable in the long.
Fuck your job, help me and let's write history.”
Hopefully my new agent embraces their new role, I’m certainly embracing them as my new agent. Agent A is fierce, unstoppable and the best. They represent the best.
Becoming a writer is a bitch, but I won’t stop.
