I wish I was a speckled trout
Swimming upstream
And you were fishing after me
Instead I’m on the shore
Holding a rod
Maybe I’d catch something
If I wasn’t so concerned
With the beer in my hand
Or where the horse flies land
Or how a mosquito is trying to suck my blood’
I’m not a subsistence fisher
So I guess it’s alright
I’d better just enjoy the moment
But still I find myself
Wishing I was some sort of trout
That you caught swimming upstream
Rainbow or speckled
I’d still be in your net
You’ve got me hooked by the cheek
I’m caught, trying to speak
“Hi”
Or “Hey”
It’s funny how you caught me on this day.
Hey.
No quotations
Because I‘m hoping
This one word
Precedes your own “Heyy”
Let’s get lost in each other’s arms
Let’s get lost in each other’s…
“Hey”
Is just text on a screen
But from the right person
It ignites fireworks
