Happy Thanksgiving!

My world is full of abundance and I am extremely grateful for all the amazing people in my life. Waking up this morning is a blessing and I am extremely grateful to be alive today.

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because it lacks the materialistic component of Christmas while still being centered on family. We get together and stuff our bellies full just to fall asleep and continue eating at the leftovers, which I think can be agreed upon is most people’s favorite. While I am excited for today’s turkey I am even more excited for the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich I am going to make tomorrow.

I’m leaving for Utah on the 29th and won’t get to spend this Christmas with my family; it will be the first time in my life that this is the case. Leaving is bittersweet because of how much I enjoy spending time with my friends/family but I’m fully confident that this will be the best decision for my sobriety.

I visited my grandmother in her nursing home yesterday and will again get to spend the day with her today; she lectured me about the importance of hard work. I’m not a spring chicken anymore according to my grandmother and as she correctly stated “everything worthwhile in life requires hard work.”

Early to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise. The knowledge and lessons my grandmother has taught me throughout my life have been invaluable and although I would prefer to spend time with her she would just be disappointed that I wasn’t out working instead. Work hard and play hard, it’s a motto I’ve always lived by and I reckon I’ve just been playing and working in the wrong ways. We often find what we’re searching for when we stop searching, we distract ourselves from being present and lead ourselves down a path very different than expected.

I assume everything happens for a reason and while there is no benefit to dwelling on the past there is certainly a lot of value in reflecting and studying it.

I’m thankful for my family, friends, experiences I’ve had and experiences I will have – I’m incredibly thankful for being alive and will continue to be eternally thankful for each day that I open my eyes in the morning. I used to dread waking up but with the lifestyle changes I’ve been making I’ve had a renewed sense of excitement and curiosity.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and your world is filled with abundance.
